Background tasks
Updated 18 October 2026
Some jobs take longer than a chat reply: finding and comparing three plumbers, planning a trip, or keeping an eye on a price for a few weeks. PelQi can take these on as a task and keep working on them while you get on with your day, even with the app closed.
Every plan. How many tasks and runs depends on the plan; children cannot start tasks.
Start a task
- In chat, ask for the job in your own words, for example "find three well-reviewed plumbers near me and compare them".
- PelQi offers to take it on as a task. When it does, a task card appears in the chat with See task and Open its chat.
- PelQi works on it in the background. Each task has its own chat, titled "Task: ..." in your chats, where PelQi posts check-ins, questions and the result.
- When PelQi asks you something, answer in the task's chat, or in the Approvals inbox under Questions from tasks.
Manage a task
- Open Tasks in the sidebar (on a phone, the Tasks tab) and tap the task.
- You see its plan with ticks, and What PelQi did: every step, with links to the pages it read and What PelQi saw for its browser steps.
- Use Pause, Resume, Work on it now, Stop or Delete. Deleting removes the task and its record; its chat stays.
- Want to see what it would do before it does anything? Use Try it now. See Try it now.
What it can and cannot do
- It searches the web, reads pages in its own browser, checks the weather, adds to lists and the calendar, and keeps notes.
- Anything that reaches outside your home, such as calling or messaging a business, or pressing a button that would book, buy or send, waits on a card for your tap.
- Watching tasks end on the date PelQi agreed with you: 30 days unless you say otherwise, 60 at most.
- Every step is kept in the task's record, so you can see what it read and did.
Limits by plan
- Free: one open task and three runs a day.
- Plus and Family: five open tasks and 24 runs a day, for each person.
- Max: 20 open tasks and 100 runs a day.
- Runs use your daily allowance on every plan, Max included. When it is used up, the task waits and says so. Children cannot start tasks.
What you should see
A notification when PelQi finishes, needs an answer, or something changed. Tapping it opens the task's chat with the result and the sources it used.
If it does not work
- The task says it is waiting: it has a question for you, or today's runs or allowance are used up. Open its chat to see which.
- "Could not finish": three runs in a day failed, so PelQi stopped and said why in the task's chat. Use Try again in Tasks.
- No notification: see Notifications are not arriving.
