Set up a kitchen screen

Updated 18 October 2026

Kitchen mode is a big, hands-free PelQi screen for a counter, a fridge door or a hallway. Say "PelQi" and talk. It shows and rings everyone's timers at home, speaks announcements, and has buttons for chores, smart home and your routines.

Every plan

Set it up

  • On the tablet or computer you want to use, sign in to PelQi.
  • Choose Kitchen in the sidebar (on a phone, open More, then Kitchen). You can also open Settings, You, and choose Open kitchen mode, or long press the PelQi icon and choose Kitchen mode once PelQi is installed.
  • Tap Start, and allow the microphone when asked.
  • Say "PelQi", then talk. Or type in the box at the bottom.
  • Keep it plugged in. The kitchen screen keeps the tablet awake while it is open, in browsers that allow it. To turn that off, open the kitchen screen's settings and untick Keep the screen on.

What it does

  • Timers: every household member's timers show and ring here, so anyone at home can stop the pasta. Alarms ring only on their owner's own screens.
  • Announcements: every announcement at home is shown in big type and spoken ("Emma says: dinner is ready").
  • Buttons: routines with a button, Chores (anyone can tick a child's chore here), and Smart home when Home Assistant is linked.
  • Wake word training: if PelQi misses its name, open the kitchen screen's settings and choose Train (say "PelQi" 5 times).

The wake word is listened for in the browser on that device. What you say after it is turned into text on PelQi's own servers. Only you see your conversations.

If it does not work

See Kitchen screen problems for a screen that does not wake, stays silent or goes to sleep.
