Kitchen screen problems
Updated 18 October 2026
The kitchen screen is PelQi's big-eye, hands-free page at app.pelqi.com/eye. It listens for "PelQi", shows the household's timers and announcements in big type, and rings for anyone's timer. Most problems come from the tablet going to sleep or the microphone.
It asks me to sign in
The kitchen screen opens as the person signed in on that device. Sign in once with a grown-up's account and leave it open. If someone signs out on that tablet, sign in again.
It does not respond to "PelQi"
- The wake word works only while the kitchen page is open and on screen. It runs in the browser on that device.
- Tap the screen once after opening the page ("Tap to wake me"). Browsers need a tap before they use the microphone or play sound.
- Allow the microphone for the page: see PelQi cannot hear me.
- Check Wake word "PelQi" is ticked in the kitchen screen's settings. PelQi learns how you say its name over time.
It goes to sleep
The kitchen screen asks the browser to keep the screen on while it is open, and asks again when you come back to it. Check Keep the screen on is ticked in the kitchen screen's settings: the line under it says whether it is on. If it says to tap, tap the screen once. Older tablets and browsers may not allow it, and power saving or a low battery can stop it. Then change the tablet's own setting:
- iPad: Settings, Display and Brightness, Auto-Lock, Never, while it is plugged in. Guided Access (Settings, Accessibility) keeps it on the PelQi page.
- Android tablet: Settings, Display, Screen timeout, the longest time, or Stay awake while charging in Developer options.
- Computer: set the display never to sleep while plugged in.
It does not ring or speak
- Turn the tablet's volume up and silent mode off.
- Tap the screen once after the page loads, so it may play sound.
- Timers ring on every open kitchen screen at home; alarms ring only on their owner's own screens.
It looks wrong on a small phone
The kitchen page is made for a tablet or a computer screen. On a phone, use the chat instead.
What you should see
The big PelQi eye, the time, any running timers in large type, and PelQi answering out loud after you say "PelQi" and your question.
